Looking for NaNoWriMo writing buddies?

Slightly off topic, but anyone NaNoWriMo-ing this year?

Some of you may not have heard of NaNoWriMo. It’s a project to get amateur writers who claim “someday I’m going to write a novel” to start writing one. You start a fresh novel idea November 1st and the goal is to reach 50,000 words by the end of the month — about 1700 words a day. To give you an idea of how many words 1700 is, it’s not quite three pages in MS Word (single spaced). NaNoWriMo is on the honor system, so you can cheat if you want, but what’s the point? All you get is a certificate. The real reward is the sense of accomplishment you get from actually finishing.

A friend and I got to talking about how difficult it was to find NaNoWriMo buddies who weren’t teenagers or stay-at-home moms. Teens can be, well, teens, and SAHMommy writing buddies are likely to spend a lot of time making kid-related excuses and getting annoyed if you get too far ahead and making snippy comments like, “Well, it’s EASY if you don’t have a FAMILY. ” *eyeroll* That’s why I prefer to steer clear of them, and perhaps you do, too.

So I agreed to set up a thread here where people who might be looking for writing buddies can match up. Post a link to your NaNoWriMo profile, a little about the genre you write, perhaps your age group, state or country you live in, perhaps other hobbies/interests, etc. – whatever you think might help you find a writing buddy that you might have something in common with.

And for all you NaNoWriMo-ers out there, good luck!

Hello, my wife sent me this blog post as this will be my third NaNo.

If anyone wants an extra buddy then my NaNo name is panderson1979 (original, I know…)

I’m 30 (and distressingly now that I’m not part of the “Twenties” group in the forums, I’m part of the “Thirties AND Forties”!), living in London, UK and I write mainly urban fantasy and gothic horror/romance (aka “disturbing and f***ed up stories” according to my wife).

My first year I made the target, last year I didn’t, this year – we’ll see. I have a few other projects on in November (bad time management).

Outside of writing I enjoy drawing and painting, and when I’m not injured I sometimes go running…

I’m LadyMage on NaNo and definitely looking for writing buddies.

My genre is science fiction and this is my fourth turn at NaNo. I published Book 1 of my series, am editing Books 2 and 3 simultaneously, and am preparing to write Book 4 this year. It’s sci-fi with a heavy dose of grit; slight turns at humor and romance but not to detract from the ass-kicking.

And I have a CF main character. :)

    Hi Phoena!
First of all let me say that your blog was the first childfree blog I ever found ( about 2 years ago) and I enjoy reading your posts very much. Until then, I had no idea that ‘childfree’ people even existed or had a ‘community’. In fact I used to think that I was pretty much ‘alone’ and ‘weird’ for never having wanted to procreate -unlike most of my friends and acquaintances. I am therefore very happy to have found ‘Happily Childfree’! :-)

I teach Portuguese in the U.S. ( I’m originally from Brazil) and have published my first novel this year.
It is a fiction drama/romance that takes place in my hometown , Rio de Janeiro.
It took me one year and a half to write it and another one year and two months to translated it to English , with the help of some advanced Portuguese students of mine, who are all native English speakers.
I’m now working on my second book – this time, a basic Portuguese course for travellers
(Perhaps it will be a useful ‘tool’ , especially for those courageous enough to go to the Rio Olympics in 2016 !! lol)
Anyway, for anyone interested in checking my novel , it is for sale at Amazon under the title ‘ Copadrama- a Brazilian Tragicomedy’.
    Bye now.

We’re already writing buddies, but I just wanted to say good luck. I think I might add some of the above people as writing buddies, too!! It would be awesome to have CF writing buddies, too, for NaNoWriMo!!

My username is KristynMarie (like Paul, very creative!), if anyone is looking for another writing buddy!

    Good luck to all!
